Tutoring

Academic Mentor

Parramatta, New South Wales
Work Type: Part Time

Details

Dymocks Tutoring / Talent 100, part of the Dymocks Education group, is a leading provider of senior school academic support, recognised for helping students improve both their results and confidence.

Please note - This is not a tutoring role. We are seeking a motivated and empathetic Academic Mentor to act as a success coach for Year 11 and 12 students. Rather than delivering lessons or content, you will support students through high-touch academic guidance: helping them stay accountable, build effective study habits, interpret feedback, and navigate their senior years with confidence. This role is centred on proactive outreach, mentorship, and strategic academic support, not traditional tutoring.

About the Role

This is an all-rounder role that combines direct student support with customer service and family engagement. Reporting to the Head of Academics, you will be responsible for:

  • Academic Support: Providing immediate, fair-use academic assistance during Homework Help sessions by responding to subject-specific and study-related questions.

  • Student Outreach: Making outbound academic check-in calls to support student engagement, identify learning gaps, and implement appropriate interventions.

  • Success Coaching: Helping students plan and manage their study, track assessment results, and connect with targeted learning resources.

  • Growth & Engagement: Supporting growth initiatives by promoting additional subjects and encouraging referrals to the Dymocks Guru Discord channel.

  • Reporting: Maintaining clear and accurate student and customer records, and delivering daily updates on service usage and outreach outcomes.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will be a high achiever who balances academic expertise with the emotional intelligence required to coach senior students toward success.

Essential:

  • Academic Excellence: A high ATAR (95+) with a Band 6 in HSC English (up to Advanced), Maths (up to Advanced), and at least one Science or HSIE subject.

  • Availability: Consistent availability for at least 4 nights per week (Monday–Sunday) between 6:00 pm and 10:00 pm.

  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to "read between the lines" to understand a student's struggles.

  • Organizational Skills: Strong ability to pivot between providing academic help and making outreach calls.

  • Compliance: A current employee Working With Children Check (WWCC) is mandatory.

Desirable:

Previous experience in sales or customer service calls within an educational setting.

What Success Looks Like

  • Delivering high-quality academic support with consistently positive student feedback.

  • Completing academic check-ins on time, with clear actions and documented outcomes.

  • Identifying learning gaps that drive measurable improvements in engagement or performance.
Maintaining accurate, timely records and daily reporting aligned with service and outreach KPIs.

  • Contributing to growth targets through subject recommendations and referrals.
